Gladbach turn to Blessin after winless start

Borussia Mönchengladbach have appointed Alexander Blessin as their new manager after opening the Bundesliga season with four consecutive defeats. The club dismissed Eugen Polanski on 13 September and briefly relied on Jan‑Moritz Lichte as interim coach, but a 4–3 loss to Mainz convinced the board to accelerate their search for a permanent solution. Blessin, who has signed a contract until June 2028, arrives after a two‑year spell at St. Pauli, where he initially kept the club in the top flight before suffering relegation last season.

Gladbach will officially present him on Wednesday at ista‑Borussia‑Park alongside Head of Sports Rouven Schroeder. The role marks Blessin’s second senior job in German football following eight years as a youth coach at RB Leipzig and previous managerial stints in Belgium and Italy. With Gladbach sitting bottom after finishing 12th last year, Blessin now has the international break to stabilise the squad before facing FC Köln on 11 October.
