Former Proteas captain joins Dutch coaching staff for League 2 push

The Royal Dutch Cricket Association has confirmed the appointment of former South Africa captain Johan Botha as a consultant for the Netherlands Men’s team. The 44‑year‑old will work with the squad during the crucial ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 home tri‑series against Namibia and Nepal, scheduled from 21 to 31 July at Kampong Cricket Club in Utrecht.

Botha expressed enthusiasm about joining the Dutch setup, noting he has followed their progress closely in recent years and looks forward to collaborating with players and staff. A veteran of five Tests, 78 ODIs and 40 T20Is, he captained South Africa in both limited‑overs formats before transitioning into coaching roles across major franchise leagues, including the PSL, CPL, MLC, Big Bash and Queensland cricket.

KNCB High Performance Board member Sybrand Engelbrecht welcomed the move, highlighting Botha’s extensive experience. The Netherlands will announce their squad for the tri‑series shortly after 9 July.
