Rahane ends illustrious career, retiring from all formats

Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, closing a distinguished career marked by composure and commitment. The former India captain shared an emotional message on social media, reflecting on timing, gratitude and the honour of representing his country. Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik praised Rahane as one of the city’s finest ambassadors, highlighting his calm under pressure. Rahane finishes with 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, 20 T20Is and 212 IPL appearances, including standout overseas Test performances and leadership during India’s historic 2020‑21 Border Gavaskar Trophy triumph.

He recalled his journey from Dombivli to the national team, stressing honesty, intent and putting India first. Rahane also thanked teammates, coaches, franchises and fans, noting that while his chapter as an Indian cricketer ends, his connection to the game continues. His long white‑ball and IPL career included two World Cups and consistent contributions across franchises.
