Litton Das takes charge as Bangladesh’s new ODI captain

Bangladesh have appointed Litton Das as their ODI captain, with BCB president Tamim Iqbal explaining the move as a way to maximize Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s value as an all‑rounder. The board opted to streamline leadership by having two captains across formats, confirming Litton for white‑ball cricket and Najmul Hossain Shanto for Tests, while Towhid Hridoy becomes the white‑ball vice‑captain. Tamim praised Mehidy’s successful stint, which included four series wins, but stressed the need for him to regain peak form, particularly with the ball.

He added that the decision followed discussions with players and staff to ensure alignment between formats. Litton brings prior ODI captaincy experience, including a 2022 series win over India. The board will now evaluate performances every six months to improve communication and reduce reactionary changes. Tamim believes a clearer structure will help Bangladesh plan effectively and allow Mehidy to rediscover his best rhythm.
