Newcastle United suffers a setback as a key player is ruled out

Fabian Schar will miss Newcastle United's doubleheader against Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in London. Schar was given his fifth Premier League yellow card of the season during Monday night's 2-0 victory against Manchester United. Any player who receives five warnings in their team's first 19 games is automatically suspended for one match, under league regulations.

Schar and Newcastle are frustrated because the defender was only ten minutes away from averting this situation. The disciplinary criteria would have been raised to 10 yellow cards in 32 games for Saturday's trip to Spurs. After missing three games due to an alleged headbutt on Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz on the first day of the season, Schar is serving his second suspension of the year. The other two players serving suspensions this season are Joelinton and Dan Burn.
