Since Pioli's arrival, the Florence-based team has only managed to secure four points in 10 Serie A matchdays, with four draws and six losses, the worst record in its history at this stage of the championship.
Pioli, who had succeeded Raffaele Palladino, the coach who led the club to a sixth-place finish in the 2024/25 Serie A season, has been through three clubs in less than 18 months: AC Milan, the Saudi club Al Nassr and now, Fiorentina.
The team will be temporarily managed by coach Daniele Galloppa, although the Italian media has suggested the possibility of the 'viola' club hiring Roberto D'Aversa, who has coached Parma, Lecce, and Empoli, or Paolo Vanoli, unemployed since leaving Torino in June.
Fiorentina will visit the German team Mainz on Thursday for the third matchday of the Conference League group stage, a competition in which they currently lead with two victories.
