Striker Martinuccio missed Chapecoense flight due to injury

There are many ways in which one can consider himself lucky, but the story of Argentine player Alejandro Martinuccio that just unfolded before our eyes is one of the saddest in football history. The biggest tragedy that we can remember in the sport's history just took place and took the lives of 19 Chapecoense players as well as the whole technical staff, 20 journalists and almost the whole crew on that plane.

But there were reportedly four people who missed the flight for various reasons, one of these was Argentine striker Alejandro Martinuccio who just picked up an injury and wasn't able to make it to the plane. This was the last time he would know about all his teammates, he got saved out of pure chance or maybe destiny who knows.

Speaking to Radio La Red still in shock with what just happened, Martinuccio said: "It's a very difficult moment. I woke up with the news. I'm very sad. I've been recovering from an injury and I didn't travel. I got injured a month and a half ago and that's why I wasn't on the plane. I came to the club a little while ago. Everyone here is waiting for news of something. Nobody knows anything, it's just waiting and waiting. There are five survivors and nothing more [that we know about]. This is a wonderful club, with some first-class players. Everyone is very sad. All this is really difficult. We hope that there is a miracle from God. All I can ask for is that you pray for my team-mates who were on the flight."
