ACB have hinted at possible leadership shift following T20 WC disappointment

Speculation regarding a potential change in captaincy is mounting within Afghanistan’s cricket community following their recent elimination from the ICC T20 World Cup. Rashid Khan, despite his status as a premier global bowler, has struggled to guide the squad into the later stages of major tournaments since reclaiming the leadership role. Although expectations were originally high, actual performances in international events have failed to match the team's reputed potential.

Consequently, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has already overhauled the coaching staff, appointing Richard Pybus to replace Jonathan Trott as head coach and hiring Toby Radford for batting duties. Trott's exit was largely anticipated due to lingering friction with administration.

Now, the focus shifts to on-field leadership. ACB CEO Naseeb Khan confirmed that while no final verdict regarding the captaincy exists, structural reforms are underway. He noted that building a future-ready team requires inevitable adjustments, implying Rashid’s position remains under serious scrutiny.
