Sairaj Bahutule is expected to join the Indian men’s team as its spin‑bowling coach, with the former international likely to leave Punjab Kings after the ongoing IPL season. The fifty‑three‑year‑old, who played two Tests and eight ODIs between 2001 and 2003, has reportedly held discussions with head coach Gautam Gambhir and senior BCCI officials. Bahutule’s strong reputation as a spin‑bowling mentor is believed to have impressed Gambhir, especially as India currently lacks a designated specialist in that role. The coaching group includes Sitanshu Kotak, Morne Morkel, T Dilip and Ryan ten Doeschate.
Bahutule has previously travelled with the national side during assignments linked to the National Cricket Academy under VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid had requested his presence for the 2023 Border‑Gavaskar Trophy and a tour of Sri Lanka. His onboarding timeline will depend on contractual obligations with Punjab Kings, who are unlikely to block a move involving the national team.
