A loss against Sevilla puts Espanyol closer to being relegated

After losing 3-2 at Sevilla, Espanyol in the Spanish league has moved closer to being relegated. With five games left, Espanyol is in second-to-last position and is three points from safety after suffering their eighth loss in their previous ten games.

Karim Rekik's own goal in the 29th minute and Javi Puado's goal in the 43rd minute gave Espanyol a 2-1 advantage at the break. Sevilla's Bryan Gil scored the game's first goal in the 22nd minute, and the visitors' Lucas Ocampos penalty in the 69th minute leveled. With Pape Gueye's winning goal in the 88th minute, they took the lead. Espanyol’s next game against league leaders Barcelona and a matchup with second-place Atletico Madrid is also on the schedule, their situation appears dire. Later Espanyol coach Luis Garcia shared, ”We have to keep working and keep believing.”
