With a strong showing at Portman Road, Forest resumed their ascent to Europe's premier club tournament for the first time since 1980. The visitors moved six points ahead of City and within one point of second-place Arsenal after scoring three goals in six first-half minutes. The floodgates were opened when Nikola Milenkovic managed a loose ball inside the area and fired it in off the underside of the bar. Then, following a furious Forest counterattack, Anthony Elanga scored his first goal since Boxing Day. Two minutes later, Elanga scored his second goal of the afternoon after sprinting clear and taking advantage of terrible Ipswich defense.
Jota Silva's fourth goal for Forest was followed by late consolation goals from Jens Cajuste and George Hirst for Kieran McKenna's team. With a 2-1 victory against Southampton, thanks to a double from Jorgen Strand Larsen, Wolves climbed nine points clear of the bottom three, further hurting Ipswich's already difficult fight to avoid relegation.
