Just like with many other players who ended up being complete flops after being transferred, Mario Gotze's case is a curious one because h had tremendous potential but it appears that he was content with being the man who scored the winning goal at a World Cup. No more ambition further than that, that's a very sad thing for any professional footballer. This past season was quite dismal for Gotze under Pep Guardiola with Bayern and Joachim Low with Germany.
The rumors linking him to a reunion with former manager Jurgen Klopp never came to fruition and Borussia Dortmund always seemed to be a club that has no problem with taking back former players. Gotze somehow seems like a safe bet for them, so they are currently making the effort to get him back for the right price. A deal that would not go over the €27 million and a definitive transfer that would be, with all the players who just left the club they need every player they can get their hands on.
Bayern's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed it to Sport1: "I can confirm that talks with Borussia Dortmund have taken place. There have also been talks with his agent, but the deal is not done just yet. Both clubs will have to reach an agreement over a transfer fee first. Gotze has been at Bayern for three years and it did not work out for him. I am not surprised that Gotze wants to leave. He is 24 years old and needs to play regularly."
