Hugo Broos: ‘My work with Bafana Bafana better than Cameroon AFCON win’

Belgian Hugo Broos, Cameroon's 2017 AFCON winner who was later dismissed, now states his South Africa tenure is superior. Broos deems his current accomplishments more profound. He highlights two AFCON qualifications, a recent bronze medal, finishing third, and a 2026 World Cup berth as evidence.

Broos states, "What we have done with South Africa is better than what I did with Cameroon." He emphasizes building a daily progressing team, unlike Cameroon, a squad used to AFCON success and high pressure. For 95% of his Bafana Bafana squad, the 2024 AFCON was their debut; their "enormous" semi-final progression was unexpected.

Broos notes Cameroon’s subsequent World Cup qualification failure, cementing his preference for South Africa's improvement. His career, he insists, is "still not finished"; he targets a "fantastic performance" at the World Cup.
