Liverpool edged Newcastle 3-2 in a Premier League thriller

Sixteen-year-old Rio Ngumoha announced himself in stunning fashion with a stoppage-time winner as Liverpool edged Newcastle 3-2 in a Premier League thriller at St James’ Park. Liverpool led 1-0 at the break and doubled their advantage seconds into the second half, seemingly sealing the points after Anthony Gordon’s red card had reduced Newcastle to 10 men. But Bruno Guimarães’ 57th-minute header reignited belief, and substitute William Osula equalised in the 88th, sending the 52,200 crowd into raptures.

With injuries forcing at least 11 minutes of added time, Newcastle pressed for a dramatic winner. Instead, Arne Slot’s late gamble paid off as Ngumoha, making his Premier League debut four days before his 17th birthday, arrived unmarked to sweep home in the 100th minute. The teenager became the fourth youngest scorer in league history, behind James Vaughan, James Milner, and Wayne Rooney.
