After reaching a personal terms agreement with the England defender, Manchester United hopes to negotiate a trade with Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite. Despite stiff competition for Lille's center-half, Leny Yoro is another player that United is interested in signing.
Although Everton is demanding a price of at least £70 million for Branthwaite—much more than United is willing to pay—the Manchester team is holding out hope that a deal may be reached. With Raphael Varane's departure, United has targeted Branthwaite—who was left out of Gareth Southgate's final 26-man England team for the Euros—as their main transfer target. In the event that the highly-regarded 18-year-old defender leaves Lille this summer, Real Madrid is supposed to be his most likely destination, although Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in him. After the season, he will become a free agent with one year remaining on his contract.
