Match Report: Medeama Beats Champions Aduana To Go Top Of The League

A brace from Medeama Talisman Kwesi Donsu either side of the halves sandwiched Sam Adams consolation goal from the spot for Aduana Stars.

Medeama 2 -1 Aduana Stars
Zylonfoncash Premier League
T N A Park, Tarkwa
Kwesi Donsu 6”, 89” / Sam Adams 49” PK.

The newly sponsored Ghana Premier League now Zylonfoncash Premier League saw its first match today in Tarkwa where Medeama hosted Champions Aduana Stars in a matchweek 5 outstanding match.

The home side got of to the perfect start when Kwesi Donsu put his side ahead in the 6th minute. Midfield general Justice Blay took on two players and his final pass to Kwasi Donsu was more than perfect, Donsu with his trade mark shot got the net shaking as the ball rifled into it.

Medeama didn’t stop there. They continued to probe at the Aduana goal looking to get a quick second goal. The feeling that the away side may be suffering from fatigue due to their midweek high tempo game against Raja Casablanca of Morocco got Agyenim, Donsu and Kwame Boateng in the groove troubling them with their pace and fluidity infront of goal.

The home side continued with their scintillating football infront of their fans as they kept missing chance after chance. Kwame Boateng the worst culprit, missing a golden chance to extend their lead.

Aduana finally found their footing in the game after 30 mins. Yahaya Mohammed and Noah Martey exchange some passes before the former unleashing a pile driver but ball went over for a goal kick. Yahaya’s shot seemed to wake his side up and he began to see the ball more. His physicality troubled Medeama defenders, they struggled to contain him.

Aduana was forced into a tactical substitution in the first half with Paul Aidoo going off for Emmanuel Akuoko but the change failed to work any magic as they went into half time with Medeama leading by Kwesi Donsu’s early opener.

Aduana began the 2nd half a more composed side and quickly looked to prove why they’re the defending champions. And in the 48th minute they were awarded a penalty after Medeama defender Samuel Appiah illegally brought Oba Ulitch down in the box. Sam Adams stepped up to convert the spot kick and level things up for the Ogya boys.

Aduana made their second substitution of the game as goalkeeper Gordon who got injured in the 1st half couldn’t continue. On came number 1 Joseph Addo to his usual position between the sticks.

Both sides began to throw in their all in an attempt to steal all 3 points as they went neck to neck with fans thrilled by the end to end stuff. Yahaya Mohamed missed a good chance shortly before he was substituted. Medeama goalie Eric Ofori Antwi made a rash decision which got him into trouble. He handled the ball outside the box and referee shown him the red card. A quick substitution from coach Samuel Boadu as his goalkeeper was shown the exit. He brought on Yaw Ansah for Richard Nortey.

Aduana kept going at Medeama with their man advantage but the home defense stood resolute and denied the visitors any time they stomped forward.

Just when the game looked set to end in a draw, Kwesi Donsu had other ideas. He rifled home on the stroke of the 90th minute another blinder that had Joseph Addo with no chance of saving. He sent the home bench and fans into rapturous celebrations.

Medeama, playing with a man less decided to play down the 2 mins of added time by keeping the ball in their half and playing amongst themselves to frustrate Aduana who hurried them but the host kept the ball well till referee brought the game to an end.

The win means the Mauves and Yellow are now the new leaders of the Zylofon Cash premier league with 21 points.
