Netherlands beat Qatar 2-0 to progress to the World Cup knockout stages

Nathan Ake began as the Netherlands beat Qatar 2-0 to move on to the World Cup knockout stages as Group A victors. City’s defender played the whole of the win in Doha and showcased on the left-side of a back three alongside Virgil van Dijk and Jurrien Timber.

Heading into their final group game, Louis van Gaal’s men knew a win would seal their place in the Round of 16 - after their opening game success against Senegal and their tie with Ecuador last time out.

And they almost got the perfect kickstart when a mix of Davy Klaasen and Daley Blind experimented with the capability of Meshaal Barsham, before the ex-Manchester United  player looped his final attempt over the bar. For Ake, his participation against Qatar showed his third consecutive outing at the tournament as he procured another calm and composed performance.
