Spurs beat Everton 2-1 to climb into the top four

Tottenham Hotspur were 2-0 up after 20 minutes thanks to goals from Richarlison and Son Heung-min, but things are never easy for the home team, and when Everton regained control in the second half, they ended up clinging on desperately when Andre Gomes made it 2-1 just eight minutes from time.

They did so just enough to record their third consecutive victory, ending a five-game winless streak, and leaping over champions Manchester City into fourth place. Everton will be perplexed as to how they got nothing out of the game despite dominating the second half, and they will remain just above the relegation zone owing to their 10-point deduction. They came into the game on a run of four consecutive league wins without conceding a goal, but they were well aware of their recent poor history against Spurs, having won just one of their prior 21 games, drawing ten.
