The first league goals for Andrea Belotti for Roma weren't enough to help Jose Mourinho's squad defeat Salernitana in their Serie A debut. Roma, who managed to save a 2-2 tie after looking like they could lose on Sunday, might have fared worse at the end of the day but Belotti’s late equalizer saved the day. Earlier Antonio Candreva scored two excellent goals for his side to put Roma behind.
Belotti found the net within seven minutes of the match but his effort was ruled offside, but making a comeback 10 minutes later, he converted a shot from the middle of the penalty area. Shortly before halftime, Candreva equalized by receiving a ball from Federico Fazio and dodging defender Chris Smalling before shooting into the goal. Even more spectacular was Candreva's second goal, which came four minutes after the interval. Other games saw Atalanta defeat Sassuolo 2-0, Juventus upset Udinese 3-0, and Roma's local rival Lazio lose 2-1 to Lecce after conceding twice in injury time.
