AC Milan tightened their hold on second place in Serie A with a spirited 2-1 victory against Fiorentina, after Juventus' defeat at Lazio by an Adam Marusic header in the closing seconds. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Rafael Leao's well-taken goals early in the second half helped Stefano Pioli's team cut the huge deficit separating them from Inter Milan, the league leaders who visit Empoli on Easter Monday, to 11 points. More significantly, though, Milan used Juve's one-goal loss in Rome to their advantage, winning six straight games across all competitions to pull six points ahead of their former rivals with eight games left.
Mike Maignan's important moves, both before and after Leao danced past Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano and rolled in the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute, contributed to Milan's victory in Florence. Loftus-Cheek had earlier already given Milan the lead in the 47th minute when he tucked home the Portugal winger's backheeled ball.
