After losing badly to PSG, Bayer Leverkusen bounces back against Freiburg

After losing 2-0 to Freiburg in the Bundesliga and being humiliated by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Bayer Leverkusen found some comfort at home on Sunday. Five days previously, Leverkusen was defeated 7-2 by the European champions at the same location. However, halfway through the first half, Ernest Poku gave Leverkusen the lead with a low strike into the bottom right corner. Early in the second half, Edmond Tapsoba broke through Freiburg's defense to head in a cross from Alejandro Grimaldo, giving the home team a double.

With the win, the 2023–24 double winners moved up to fourth place in the standings, two points ahead of Stuttgart, who play Mainz in the championship game on Sunday. Leverkusen's seven-game domestic undefeated streak also includes four straight Bundesliga victories.
