Former Newcastle striker Joselu Mato netted the winning goal giving the Alaves a leg up in La Liga as Relegation-threatened Alaves found their first win under coach Abelardo Fernandez and defeated struggling Valladolid1-0 on Friday. The team is now out of the relegation zone and jumped to 15 the place and Osasuna replaced them in the relegation zone.
Martin Aguirregabiria set up Mato who fired a low cross into the far post at the 66th minute to secure a win for Alaves beating two defenders along the way. Valladolid is 17th on the table with a five-match winless run. Valladolid goalkeeper Jordi Masip later shared he undid all the work his side put in during the night and they deserved to return home with more than a loss to showcase their efforts. Alaves have a tough one ahead of them as they travel to face Barcelona and, Valladolid will visit Eibar.
