After a strange football match, Atletico Madrid defeated Real Valladolid, who were at the bottom of La Liga, 4-2 at the Estadio Metropolitano. Giuliano Simeone and Alexander Sørloth scored the other two goals, while Julián Alvarez scored two penalties in front of a smaller audience on Monday night who had to endure the torrential rain.
After Valladolid had taken the lead with a penalty kick of their own, their captain, center-back Javi Sánchez, deflected a free kick to tie the score at 2-2. Diego Simeone's changes, however, quickly swung the game back in Atleti's favor once again, allowing Los Colchoneros to close the gap on Real Madrid, who are currently in second place, three points behind Los Blancos. Atletico had a more miserable evening than they could have wished for or anticipated, thanks to Valladolid, which has lost their last 12 games.
