Augsburg defeats Mainz to make their way clear of relegation

Augsburg went ahead clear of relegation danger in the Bundesliga. They were successful at defeating Mainz 2-1 on Wednesday. Midfielder Ruben Vargas scored a shot in the 56th minute which became the winning goal for Augsburg. This is the team’s third securing win in the last four league matches that took place.

This took the team above Wolfsburg, which was defeated by Augsburg at the weekend. With this, they secured the 13th position with six upcoming matches where they are now six points above the relegation zone. An 11th-minute penalty from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw took Augsburg ahead but midtable Mainz equalized it’s in the 54th minute. Marcus Ingvartsen fired a shot that nearly earned Mainz a point. The game had to be rescheduled from March 12 since there was a Coronavirus outbreak at Mainz.
