At 38 years old, Manuel Neuer is still the captain of Bayern Munich, and, as he reminded everyone during the previous year's Champions League campaign, he is one of the most feared goalkeepers in the world in crucial games. While Neuer has started five games in the 2024–25 Bundesliga season and 23 matches for Bayern Munich the previous season, his play is statistically falling dramatically. In the 2024–2025 season, he only stopped two-thirds of the shots he faced, and in 2024–2025, that number drops to 50%.
Depending on when Neuer retires, Bayern Munich still plans to hand Alexander Nubel the keys to the kingdom either in 2026–2027 or the next season. The team is also considering other options for goalkeeping. Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen is the goalkeeper that Bayern is reportedly keeping an eye on. Also one of the most promising goalkeepers in German football, 21-year-old Jonas Urbig of FC Koln is another player Bayern is keeping an eye on in the Bundesliga.
