Manchester United have made an initial bid for Matthijs de Ligt, according to Bild.
The Red Devils offered €30 million plus €5 million in add-ons, but their bid failed to convince Bayern to sell and the German club have rejected the offer, the report claims.
Bayern are reportedly seeking around €50 million for de Ligt, who is said to have already agreed personal terms with United.
Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeness revealed that the club need to offload some prominent players in order to finance further signings.
"No new players will come if no one goes first. [Max [Eberl] and [sporting director] Christoph Freund know very well that new players can only come to FC Bayern if a few prominent players leave," Hoeness said.
Addressing speculation linking de Ligt with Manchester United, he said:“ De Ligt is Dutch, the manager of United is Dutch."
