In today's football, it's the teams from Spain and one team in Germany the ones who can really inflict fear in other sides. A decade ago any English team that was about to play a Champions League match would instantly be considered favorite to get the victory, but today all that has changed drastically. English football is not what it used to be back in the day. The huge billionaire deal the television did with the Premier League, gave all the clubs a huge money influx that has attracted some of the most talented managers and players to the country.
It's a new era in English football that can be led by Manchester United and Jose Mourinho, but it's up to the Portuguese manager to bring United back to its old glory days. Former England international and United player David Beckham, believes that Mou does have what it takes to turn United into a competitive animal that any other side in the world can fear. Beckham spoke to Sky Sports about the huge task Mourinho has with the club.
Beckham said: "I fully expect it to work. With Jose leaving Chelsea and now coming back into the Premier League with United, for me it is a great move. I had huge respect for Van Gaal, but it did not work out the way people expected it to. But I think at the end of the day, now it is a new start for United. We have had a couple over the last three or four years, which is not the Manchester United style, who are used to a manager like Alex Ferguson being in there for so many years.
"We have had quite a lot of change over the last few years. So now with Jose in there, he knows what he wants and how to get it, he knows how to win titles. I think that is what Man United definitely need to get back to and they need to get back to being feared again. Because we were always a club - and are still a club - that when teams come to Old Trafford, they know they are going to be up against it and they know they are probably going to lose. So that is what we need to get back to. I am going to have to say United [will win next season's title]. I will always be on that side of the fence."
