Benfica eager to sign Angel di Maria

The Juventus winger's uneven performance throughout his tenure there frustrated the supporters, who finally turned against him. Di Maria has shown flashes of individual brilliance that have aided Juventus in particular games, but overall this season his form has taken a major hit. Juventus had previously been in contract negotiations with the player, but has now opted to let him leave as a free agent.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that Benfica is willing to re-sign Di Maria as a free agent in order to take advantage of this scenario. Prior to joining Real Madrid, the Argentine played for Benfica earlier in his career. This was his first important club experience on the continent. Although teams in his own nation would be interested in signing Di Maria, the former Paris Saint-Germain player might opt to stay in Europe longer before leaving it again.
