Waldemar Anton has reportedly chosen to join Borussia Dortmund, and the defender will likely be the team's first summer transfer acquisition. For the 27-year-old's signing, Bayer Leverkusen and the Black and Yellows were in competition. Furthermore, it appears that Anton has turned down Xabi Alonso's interest in favor of a transfer to BVB.
Borussia Dortmund wants to activate Anton's 22 million euro release clause as soon as possible under his contract. The Germany international is expected to have a similar effect at the Westfalenstadion after being instrumental in Stuttgart's second-place Bundesliga result this season. After Borussia Dortmund decided not to extend Mats Hummels' contract, the team was in dire need of a new center-back. Niklas Süle's future is still up in the air, and Anton is anticipated to play with Nico Schlotterbeck in the center of the BVB defense next year.
