In the 400th game of the Premier League, Palace manager Roy Hodgson's squad was unable to celebrate with a victory, while injuries to Jeffrey Schlupp and Jairo Riedewald raised questions. In the first half at Selhurst Park, Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White came the closest to scoring when he clipped the inside of the post, while Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta also had a chance to score.
Palace had defeated United 1-0 the week before, but they were unable to add three more points against Forest. After 20 minutes, Gibbs-White's side-foot shot that beat Palace keeper Sam Johnstone and touched the inside of the post but did not cross the line should have given Forest the lead. Odsonne Edouard, who was assisted by Tyrick Mitchell, found Mateta on the right edge of the area in the second half, but Mateta's shot missed the target. Later, Nicolas Dominguez was stopped by Johnstone, and Joachim Anderson extended a leg to stop substitute Gonzalo Montiel from scoring.
