Zinedine Zidane is proving once more that he is the ideal manager for Real Madrid, not getting the expected results at this point shouldn't matter to Florentino Perez. In all his time as club president, the one man who has always responded with incredible performances both as manager and player is Zidane without a doubt. This Wednesday was a perfect day for all the reserve team lads to get their chance to shine, they played against Cultural Leonesa at the Bernabeu and started with a bang.
Right after kick-off, Asensio won the ball on the left and crossed towards Mariano who calmly slotted the ball home. This was a perfect start for the Dominican international, who still had a lot more to do in this game. On the 23rd minute, James Rodriguez extended the lead with a header after meeting Carvajal's cross from the right. The Colombian pointed his fingers to the sky as a clear homage to the Chapecoense players who died in a plane crash just hours ago.
Around the 42nd minute of the match, Mariano got his brace with a super finish from inside the box after getting assisted by Carvajal once more. Right before the break, Yeray Gonzalez pulled one back for Cultural Leonesa, that was all they wanted for this game at the Bernabeu. But the stellar moment of the day was about to come forth, Zinedine Zidane had his son Enzo on the bench and finally gave him a chance to make his official debut with Real Madrid's first team.
And what a way to mark that official debut, Enzo netted his first Real Madrid goal with a controlled low shot from just outside the box. Instead of celebrating, Zizou started yelling further instructions to his son, it's clear he will be more harsh to him than other players. But this debut marks the Zidane bloodline's continued story at the Bernabeu, it was a historic day for the club and for Enzo as well. Three minutes from the end, Mariano put the cherry on top with his third goal.
The Dominican international met Tejero's cross from the right with a close-range header to make it 5-1. On the very last minute, Cultural Leonesa's defender Cesar Morgado scored an own goal to leave the final tally in a 6-1 victory for Los Blancos who advance to the Copa del Rey next round. The next game on schedule will be El Clasico for next Saturday, many of the starters rested today in order to be fresh for the match at Camp Nou.
