With a goalless draw against Cadiz on Friday, Espanyol snapped a run of six straight losses, but they still find themselves in danger of dropping out of La Liga. The Catalan team has played one more game than the three teams above them and is now in 18th place, two points from safety. Four points above the drop zone in 14th place is Cadiz. After 30 minutes, Espanyol had a chance to take the lead, but Cesar Montes' header missed the target and Nico Melamed also came dangerously near after receiving a corner kick.
Cadiz held their own in the first half as Espanyol battled valiantly to halt their losing streak. Sergi Guardiola missed two terrific first-half opportunities for Cadiz. Before the hour mark, Joselu, a striker for Espanyol, headed against the post and then had a score ruled out for offside. As Espanyol applied pressure but came up empty, Joselu once more struck the woodwork, and Jeremias Ledesma saved an effort by Martin Braithwaite.
