Fiorentina were defeated by struggling Sassuolo

Fiorentina finished fourth in Serie A after the loss and are prepping for a busy schedule that includes a Coppa Italia quarter-final against Bologna next Tuesday and the Supercoppa Italiana Final Four. Fiorentina had not surrendered a goal in three Serie A games, but in just nine minutes Marcus Pedersen changed that. He ran down the left and dodged Andrea Pinamonti to guide the ball into the far bottom corner with the inside of his boot.

At the start of the second half, Sassuolo felt they had doubled their advantage when the initial Gian Marco Ferrari effort was knocked down by Rolando Mandragora and Kristian Thorstvedt turned in the rebound from 10 yards. However, following a lengthy VAR review, it was found that Matheus Henrique was offside and interfering with play when Mandragora made the block. Later Lucas Martinez-Quarta’s efforts were also disallowed by VAR.
