Inter's manager, Simone Inzaghi, commended his team's unity following a 4-0 Champions League thrashing of Red Star Belgrade. Even with a lineup that was not at full strength, the veteran Nerazzurri manager led his team to a decisive victory and a strong showing. At Giuseppe Meazza, Inzaghi's troops left Red Star without a chance as they took complete control of the game.
Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez were knocked out of the starting lineup by Marko Arnautovic and Mehdi Taremi. Both had a point to their name, the latter producing an incredible performance. The star summer transfer to Inter provided two assists before winning a late penalty kick. After just 11 minutes, Inter took the lead thanks to a magnificent free kick from 30 yards out by Hakan Calhanoglu. It was the team's first goal in the most prominent competition in Europe from a straight set-piece.
