Goretzka eyes long-term Bayern stay after impressive comeback

Just a year ago, the German international was considered a potential departure at Bayern. Told he might struggle for minutes, Goretzka was widely seen as a candidate for the transfer list. But under new head coach Vincent Kompany, the 30-year-old turned things around in emphatic fashion.

“I’m not planning to leave. Why would I?” Goretzka told Welt am Sonntag. “My plan is definitely to play for Bayern next season.”

Goretzka, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2026, played 40 competitive matches this season and reclaimed his spot in the national team setup. He credits Bayern and his surroundings for his resurgence.

“I feel incredibly comfortable at this club and in this city. I love Bayern München, the people here, and my teammates. We have a great group,” he said. “This club deserves to win titles. I definitely see myself as part of that.”
