Atletico Madrid defeated a ragged 10-man Celtic 6-0 on Tuesday to climb to the top of their Champions League group. Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata each scored twice. Diego Simeone's side gained an early lead via Griezmann but were battling until Celtic striker Daizen Maeda was sent off for a high foot midway through the first half. Morata scored a second before the interval, and Atletico piled on the goals in the second half, with both attackers scoring again, as well as Samuel Lino and Saul Niguez.
With the win, Atletico now has eight points, one more than Lazio, second, and two more than previous group leaders Feyenoord, while Celtic have only one. Atletico recovered impressively from a dismal setback against La Liga side Las Palmas on Friday, leaving Brendan Rodgers' team on the verge of relegation and recording their 16th successive home victory in all competitions.
