Piero Hincapie scored in injury time to lead Bayer Leverkusen to a hard-fought 3-2 victory against RB Leipzig on Saturday, increasing their Bundesliga lead by seven points. After only seven minutes, Leipzig star Xavi Simons handed the home side an incredible early lead. The 20-year-old received a pass and chipped upwards, whirling 360 degrees before slamming the ball into the corner of the net. Leverkusen came from behind twice in the encounter later on, which appeared to be heading for a tie until Hincapie scored the winner off an Alex Grimaldo corner kick.
Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso leaped with pleasure, winning a critical three points against other top-four adversaries, even though second-placed Bayern Munich had played two games less. Alonso's undefeated team has won 24 and drew three of 27 games this season.
