Howe insists Saudi support for Newcastle remains strong

Eddie Howe is adamant that Newcastle United’s Saudi ownership remains fully committed to the club’s long‑term ambitions, despite renewed scrutiny surrounding the Public Investment Fund. The 48‑year‑old confirmed he held “constructive” discussions with PIF governor and club chairman Yasir Al‑Rumayyan, leaving the meetings convinced that the vision behind the 2021 takeover is unchanged. PIF’s decision to end its multi‑billion‑dollar backing of LIV Golf prompted speculation about wider strategic shifts, but Howe said he neither requested nor needed guarantees, stressing that the determination to elevate Newcastle into a Premier League powerhouse “remains intact”.

He acknowledged the season has been disappointing, following two Champions League qualifications and last year’s long‑awaited trophy. Howe described the annual review process as demanding, particularly with Newcastle sitting fourteenth after nine defeats in twelve league matches. Yet he insists his focus is unwavering ahead of hosting Brighton, arguing that long‑term belief must now be reinforced by winning games.
