Ivory Coast turned around and 'takes' CAN from Nigeria

On Sunday, Ivory Coast won CAN'2023 after beating Nigeria (2-1), led by Portuguese José Peseiro, in the final. The Nigerians even went into half-time with an advantage, but ended up allowing the hosts to come back in the second half, with Haller scoring the decisive goal at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, in Abidjan.

Peseiro was 45 minutes away from becoming the first Portuguese to win the African Cup of Nations, but ended up seeing his dream slip away.

Troost-Ekong put Nigeria ahead in the 38th minute, but Ivory Coast turned things around in the second half, thanks to goals from Frenkie Kessié (62') and Sebastien Haller (81').

Ivory Coast thus now 'owns' three CAN titles, after having won in 1992 and 2015.
