By eliminating Sweden's BK Hacken on Wednesday, KI KLAKSVIK became the first team from the Faroe Islands to go to the third qualifying round of the Champions League. After the first game finished 0-0, Klaksvik, a team from a village of only 5,000 people, drew 3-3 in Sweden in their qualifying round. They then maintained composure in a 4-3 penalty shootout to guarantee a place in the next round.
The second round was achieved by the 20-time Faroese league winners when they defeated Ferencvaros of Hungary, who Shamrock Rovers is now up against in the Europa League qualifying round, in their first match. With a win on Wednesday, Klaksvik was assured at least a spot in the Europa Conference League, marking the first time a Faroese team has participated in the group stage of an international event.
