La Liga upset motivates Juanfran for the Champions League final

Sixteen days from today, San Siro Stadium in Milan will be packed to witness the second consecutive Champions League final between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. The whole world will stop to watch the second chapter of this tale, that during the first chapter became a Real Madrid success on that 93rd minute header by Sergio Ramos that sent the match into over time. But this time, it appears that things might go on the opposite direction.

The stars seem to be aligned for Atletico Madrid to win their first Champions League trophy in history, they have been the most competitive side in the competition and they have managed to get to where they are in a very different way that Real Madrid has. The Colchoneros needed to defeat the Dutch champions in the round of 16, the current Spanish champions in the quarterfinals, and the German champions in the semifinals. Real Madrid in the other hand, played against much weaker side to get to where they are.

But in that attempt to get to San Siro, Atletico has sadly lost their chance to win a double this season after losing at Levante last weekend in La Liga. This defeat takes them off the title race in La Liga, but for club's full-back Juanfran, this is an extra motivation for the final against Real Madrid. Talking to the club's web site, he said that he is looking forward to the final already.

"The Levante defeat hurt a lot, that's the reality. We're a winning club, you look back and see the season we have done, all the effort and training. What we wanted most was to get to the last day with possibilities to win this title, so the defeat to Levante hurt. In the worst moments we have always come back stronger, and this will be one of them. In the Lisbon final I remember we lost, and things did not go as we wanted. Life and football give us a new opportunity. I hope we take advantage. I am convinced that if we play, we give what we have inside a little more than them, we will do well."
