Lautaro Martinez scored the game-winning goal as Serie A leaders Inter Milan defeated Atalanta 2-1 in Bergamo on Saturday. Inter are currently five points ahead of Juventus and six ahead of AC Milan, who were defeated 1-0 at home by Udinese after displaying tenacity despite the adverse weather circumstances.
The visitors were dealt an early setback when French central defender Benjamin Pavard hobbled out in the first half. In 40 minutes, Hakan Calhanoglu raised their spirits with a comfortably executed penalty kick. In the 57th minute, the tenacious Martinez blasted a looping shot past two players and into the top corner. Former West Ham player Gianluca Scammaca was fortunate to score a counterattack but Inter ended up taking all three points. After a difficult test, Inter can look forward to Wednesday's Champions League match against Salzburg, where a win will advance them to the final 16.
