Lazio returned to winning ways in Empoli after two straight defeats

After eight minutes, Mattéo Guendouzi rifled home through a swarm of players during a goalmouth scramble. Mattia Zaccagni extended the advantage midway through the second half with a close-range shot. Empoli had the league's worst offensive, with only 10 goals in 17 games, and despite matching Lazio at times, it finished third from bottom. Lazio moved up to ninth place with a 2-0 win over Empoli, thanks to goals from Zaccagni and Guendouzi.

The hosts remained in the bottom three. Ivan Provedel of Biancocelesti produced a run of superb saves to clinch Maurizio Sarri's side a hard-fought win, their third on the road this season. As Lazio kept a slim advantage at the break, Provedel denied Alberto Grassi and Daniel Maldini. He produced an even greater save after the restart, stopping Nicolo Cambiaghi, who had already begun to celebrate an Empoli equalizer before realizing he had been denied.
