The Salentini were comfortably mid-table before losing back-to-back games to Inter and Atalanta, while the Sardinians stayed in the bottom three. The visitors made a strong start, with Alberto Dossena heading narrowly wide following a succession of early corners, but Remy Oudin pounded the base of the post for Lecce after 15 minutes.
Later on the Oudin corner kick, Valentin Gendrey was scored with a fully open header from five yards out, breaking the stalemate. Gaetano Oristanio shot a number of times wide before netting the equalizer in frantic circumstances. Wladimiro Falcone felt he had made two amazing stops on Oristanio in short succession, as well as the follow-up, but goal-line technology revealed it had already crossed the line when Oristanio came sliding in to meet the free kick. Falcone was decisive minutes later, leaping with one powerful hand to block the Prati scorcher away.
