Mateus Fernandes' late header was only a consolation as Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon scored goals in the first fifteen minutes of the match, causing the damage. With only three minutes on the clock, Aaronson gave the home team the lead by scoring from close range after grabbing the rebound.
Then, only twelve minutes later, Rodon made it 2-0 by rising highest from a corner. As Nuno Espírito Santo's team tried to respond, Lucas Paquetá's attempt was disallowed for a tight offside. The Irons had more possession of the ball after the half, but Leeds held them at bay until Fernandes headed Jarrod Bowen's cross home in the dying seconds. The visitors will now head back home for back-to-back games, hoping for a significant lift after it proved to be too little, too late.
