Legon Cities take huge step towards PL safety with vital win against Hearts

Legon Cities made it back-to-back home wins at the El-Wak Sports Sports Stadium following a slender 1-0 win against Accra Hearts of Oak in the match week 32 fixture of the Betpawa premier league.

The match proved to be a significant boost for Cities’ chances of avoiding relegation, as they managed to secure a hard-fought victory.

The Royals bounced back from their last defeat against Berekum Chelsea at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in the last fixture.

Legon Cities had plenty of chances in the early stage against Accra Hearts of Oak but failed to find the back of the net in the first forty minutes.

Former Accra Hearts of Oak Striker Kofi Kordzi struck late in the dying minutes of the first half, after an end-to-end display from both teams.

The Phobians needed to respond after the lackluster display against current league leaders Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium where they were thrashed by five goals to one.

David Ocloo’s side have now recorded back-to-back defeats in the Ghana premier league further denting their chances of finishing in the top four this season with just two games to go.

The 2020/21 Premier League Champions are now set to endure their worst finish in the last three seasons, finding themselves in eighth place with five points separating them and the relegation zone.

Legon Cities are now 11th on the league log with 43 points after 32 games in the premier league.

Accra Hearts of Oak on the other hand have dropped to 8th on the log with 45 points.
