Lille’s pursuit of Inter Milan’s Benjamin Pavard takes hit

According to a report from L’Équipe, Lille OSC’s ambitious attempt to bring Benjamin Pavard back to his formative club has faltered.

Lille knew beforehand that any deal to return the versatile defender to the north of the country would be complex, even if Pavard had in the past expressed that it was his dream to come back to Les Dogues and captain the side. However, it appears as if the deal may prove to be too complex.

L’Équipe writes that the 2018 World Cup winner’s current contract is unattainable for Lille, who are suffering under the current economic crisis gripping French football. The club reportedly received €115m less in revenue compared to last season.

With this in mind, Les Dogues and Pavard will likely have to wait for a sweet reunion, as Lille instead looks to bring in more affordable reinforcements, such as current Fenerbahçe SK centre-back Diego Carlos.
