Mainz stunned last season's Bundesliga runner-up RB Leipzig 1-0 on Sunday, spoiling new coach Jesse Marsch's Bundesliga debut.Mainz's Lee Jae-sung also struck the crossbar, but Leipzig gradually gained control and created opportunities for Christopher Nkunku and Angelino. Moussa Niakhate of Mainz, on the other hand, tapped in at the far post in the 13th minute after a botched Leipzig attempt to clear the ball fell into his path.
In a fairly one-sided second half, Leipzig pressed Mainz deep but failed to generate chances, though Mohamed Simakan's double opportunity on the hour and Mukiele's effort came near.
Mainz would ultimately score after Mukiele failed to clear the ball within his own penalty area, which Mainz centre-back Moussa Diakhate easily pushed into the back of the net. As the first half progressed, Leipzig grew in size, neutralising the threat presented by Mainz's wing-backs and forwards
