The two goals Jae-sung Lee scored for Mainz shocked Bayern Munich 2-1 at home, giving coach Vincent Kompany his first league defeat. With Bayer's 2-0 victory over Augsburg, Bayern are currently only four points ahead. Kompany was unable to use a number of first-team regulars due to injuries, including Joao Palhinha, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Alphonso Davies, Harry Kane, and Manuel Neuer.
In the first half, when the league leaders dominated possession but failed to turn any of their half-chances into goals, Kane's absence was most noticeable.
