Mbappé fires Real Madrid back to the top with late winner against Getafe

With a close victory over Girona on Saturday, rivals Barcelona momentarily overtook Los Blancos, but Xabi Alonso's team regained their two-point lead ahead of the Clásico the following weekend. Getafe held Madrid at bay until Allan Nyom was sent off a minute after entering the game, and Mbappe swiftly scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute. As Getafe faltered in the closing moments, Alex Sancris was also dismissed.

With the Champions League match against Juventus on Wednesday and Barca's upcoming visit in mind, Alonso started with Brazilian sensation Vinicius Junior on the bench. Given that Getafe received two red cards for fouling, the winger proved to be crucial as a second-half substitution. At Getafe's Coliseum stadium, Mbappe led the line despite missing a France World Cup qualifier earlier in the week due to an ankle injury.
